International Theme and Amusement Park Society (ITAPS) recognizes the publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal as essential in building worldwide and respect network of knowledge. The publication directly reflects the quality of work of the author and more broadly the institutions supporting them. It is therefore important to agree on the standards of the expected ethical behavior by editors, authors and reviewers of ITPAS journals.
Ethical issues to consider for Editors
- Fairness: Be fair in the application of academic publishing standards without personal and/or ideological malice during the publication process.
- Anonymity: Ensure the anonymity of reviewers unless they receive permission from reviewers to reveal their identities. Ensure the anonymity of authors unless and until the manuscript is accepted for publication
- On-time progress: Ensure to provide the timely review of all manuscripts and respond promptly to inquiries about the status of a review.
Ethical issues to consider for Authors
- Originality and Plagiarism: The authors should ensure that the article is entirely original. If the authors have used the work, images and/or words of others, these has been appropriately cited. ITAPS regards the use of other work without providing references as against intellectual property rights, which is a plagiarism.
- Authorship of the paper: Authorship should be limited to those who significantly contributed to the work such as conception, design, and interpretation of the study.
- Multiple, redundant or concurrent publication: Authors should not publish manuscript representing the same research in more than one journal.
- Disclosure and conflicts of interests: All submissions must include disclosure of all relationships to avoid real or perceived conflicts of interests whenever possible
- Hazard and human/animal subjects: Consent form or ethical statement can be further required if the work involves procedures, chemicals and/or equipment which has potential unusual hazard in use, or if it involves the use of animal or human subject
Ethical issues to consider for Reviewers
- Confidentiality: Any manuscript received for review should be in confidential. Reviewers must not share the review and manuscript with anyone, not contact with authors directly without permission from the editor. Unpublished material disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not used for reviewer’s own research without the consent from the author.
- Ethical issues in manuscript: A review should be alert to the potential ethical issues presented in manuscript and should bring them to the editor immediately. The potential ethical issues include substantial similarity between the published paper of which reviewer’s personal knowledge or the manuscript under consideration.
- Standards of Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted with objectivity. Reviewers should be aware of that their bias may take into account when reviewing paper. Personal criticism is prohibited.
